Nothing happens without the 'check' target these days. It used to be
OK as 'all' in regression/ would run 'test', until upstream commit
271529fc826d82ab30e0e0b886257b7a23d3ef8f (2.2.12).
But in fact we can just drop it entirely and automake handles the rest.
